Network Drives A network drive is a storage area located on a network file server managed by ITSD. Using a network drive allows you to access files from any computer on campus or through any Internet connection. Users will have access to one or more network drives determined by their role at the college.
To access a network drive from a Babson computer connected to the network, double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop. A window will appear displaying all of the drives available to you.
To access a network drive over the Internet, use the Babson Portal.
All network drives are backed up Monday through Friday. Contact the IT Service Center at x4357 (HELP) to request that a file be restored from backup.
K Drive
All users have access to the K drive. The following chart summarizes the most common folders available on the K drive:
Folder | Who Can Save Files On Folder? | Comments | | Faculty and Staff by Request | k:\courses is for read-only files that faculty of a specific course make available to their students. Faculty members must contact the IT Service Center at x4357 (HELP) to have a directory created (e.g. k:\faculty\mis1000) which they can read and write to, but which anyone else can only read. | | Faculty and Staff by Request | k:\faculty is for read-only files that faculty make available to students. All users can create subdirectories in which to store their files. Users are able to read all files posted on k:\temp but are not able to delete or modify files posted by another user.
Files in this folder that are older than two weeks are automatically deleted every morning at 6AM. Please note that files or folders deleted from k:\temp will not be restored by ITSD.
If you need to store files for longer than two weeks, please contact the IT Service Center at x4357 (HELP) for alternatives. Note: Any Babson user can read all files on K:\Temp, do not post files of a personal or confidential manner in this folder. |

Undergraduate Student Network Drives
Drive | Who Can Save Files On Drive? | Comments | | | Personal Network Storage Space - Each undergraduate student is given 200 Megabytes (MB) of private network storage space. This space can be used to back up data from your laptop, or to store important files so you can access them from any computer on campus such as in the labs. These files can only be accessed by using your username and password. How you choose to use this space is up to you, but there are a few limitations. Most importantly, anything you use this space for is subject to the terms of ITSD's Acceptable Use Policy. Part of this code is respect for copyright law. As a result, you will not be allowed to store MP3 files in your personal storage space. | | Students, Faculty and Staff | Shared Data for All Babson Users - See the above table for more information on the K drive. |

To limit access to a certain subdirectory, contact the IT Service Center at x4357 (HELP).
