When a caller dials x6263 (NAME) to access the voice recognition directory, the request is processed by NameConnector. NameConnector listens to the name that is spoken, and attempts to match the name against its database. If it finds a match, it connects the caller to the recognized number. The most critical factors to making a successful match are your speaking clearly and your calling from a noise-free area. In general, NameConnector knows you by your first and last name (full legal name). If you are commonly known by your middle name, or by a nickname, NameConnector may have problems matching requests for you.
For example, let's use a fictional Babson staff member, J. Richard Smith, Jr., who is generally called either Richard or Chip (his childhood nickname). If you call NameConnector and ask for "Chip Smith", NameConnector is unlikely to be able to make a connection unless the system already knows that "Chip Smith" is the same person as "J. Richard Smith". To ensure that you can connect to Richard or Chip Smith using NameConnector, Richard should request "Chip Smith" and "Richard Smith" as additional names. He can do that using the form below.
Another common reason that NameConnector may not recognize your name is if it is mispronounced in the system, and your callers pronounce it properly. If you notice that your name is mispronounced, simply request a change using the form below. You will be contacted as quickly as possible in order to verify the pronunciation. (You may check the pronunciation of your name by dialing x6263 and stating your name. The system will say it back to you.)
