“What is an Independent Research study?”

Independent research provides an opportunity for One Year students with 15 or more credits to conduct in-depth investigations in areas of specific interest selected by the student. An Independent Research Study can be worth either 1.5 or 3 credits, and a maximum of 6 credits can be earned in this manner.  Independent research is an individual effort and may be undertaken for academic credit with the prior approval of a faculty advisor selected by the student, the appropriate division chair, and the Office of Program Management.  Authorization requires submission of a formal proposal written in accordance with the standards set forth by the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business. Detailed information as well as an “Independent Research Proposal Guide” can be requested through the Office of Program Management, or downloaded, Independent Research Proposal.

“What are Intensive Electives and Babson Executive Education courses?”

Intensive Elective courses are courses offered in an executive style format which allow for a deep dive in a specialized curriculum.  They are 1.5 credit elective courses and typically take place over a Friday evening and two full Saturdays with some pre-work and post-work. They are typically but not exclusively offered over the winter break, spring break, and summer sessions. One Year students are eligible to take up to 6 credits of Intensive Electives. For more information, please visit: http://www3.babson.edu/offices/registrar/grad/intensive_electives.cfm.

Babson Executive Education courses are usually 3-5 day courses with high-level executives outside of the Babson Community. Topics include Leadership and Influence, Forging and Managing Strategic Alliances, and Corporate Entrepreneurship. Babson MBA students are eligible to receive a tuition discount of 20%, and are eligible to take up to 3 credits of Executive Education courses towards their elective requirements. For more information, please visit:  http://www3.babson.edu/Offices/registrar/grad/FastTrackElectiveMainPage.cfm.

“Can I take more than 16.5 credits?”

One Year MBA students who want to register for more than 16.5 credits for the next semester must obtain written permission from Meagan Ballard Hall, Manager of the One Year MBA Program, at mhall@babson.edu before registering for the additional course(s). The Program Manager will then confirm your request with the Office of the Registrar.

“Are there any concentrations?”

Questions regarding this concentration can de directed to the Global Programs Services office at 781-239-4565.  The Global Management concentration is noted on a student's trasncript but will not be noted on their diploma.
