Graduation Requirements

GPA: Minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.8

Degree Time Limit: 8 year limit

32 credits completed in the first year modules, 30 credits in the second year.

  • Credit Requirements:  You need 62 credits to graduate – 32 credits earned during the first year modules, 30 credits remain.  The graduation requirements are outlined in the Graduate Handbook, pg.39-40.
  • Core Courses:  If you have been mandated to take courses to show competency after the first year modules (you will receive a letter from GPSA), those courses are in addition to the 30 credits. It is highly recommended that you complete these additional courses in the fall of your second year (if offered) as the courses are not offered every semester.
  • International Requirement:  All students in the two year program must have global experience prior to graduation.  International students are fulfilling their requirement by attending Babson.  Other students with significant international experience may apply for a waiver through the Graduate Programs and Student Affairs in the fall of their first year.  Those students who need to fulfill the requirement have several options, coordinated by Global Program Services.

Alternative Course Formats

Intensive Electives

Intensive Elective courses are 1.5 credit elective courses and typically take place over a Friday evening and two full Saturdays with some pre-work and post-work. They are typically offered over the winter break, spring break, and summer sessions. Students are eligible to take up to 6 credits of Intensive Electives. For more information, please visit: www.babson.edu/registrar. Electives are also offered through Babson Executive Education and a current list of courses can be found at www.babson.edu/bee/programs.

Independent Research

Independent research provides an opportunity for Two-Year students with 32 or more credits to conduct in-depth investigations in areas of specific interest selected by the student. Independent research is an individual effort and may be undertaken for academic credit with the prior approval of a faculty advisor selected by the student, the appropriate division chair, and Graduate Programs and Student Affairs. Authorization requires submission of a formal proposal written in accordance with the standards set forth by the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business. Detailed information as well as an “Independent Research Proposal Guide” can be requested through Graduate Programs and Student Affairs, or downloaded from the GPSA website at: http://www3.babson.edu/Offices/grad_opm/.

Offshore Electives

This is one option for fulfilling the International Requirement.

Babson’s customized offshore elective courses in Europe, Asia and Latin America combine an intensive classroom experience with corporate site visits and guest lectures to provide students with real-time learning in the global marketplace. These courses are team-taught by Babson and host institution faculty, and feature lectures by CEOs and senior managers of major companies, including prominent Babson alumni. Please note that courses, travel dates and locations have not yet been finalized. Additional information regarding courses offered, registration and fees are available at www.babson.edu/glavin.

Please contact the Office of International Programs at 781-239-4565 if you have any questions.

How do I register?

Registration for an Offshore Elective is done through the GPS and opens earlier than registration for on-campus courses. Announcements are via e-mail regarding dates and details for each course. In addition, GPS will host information sessions throughout the fall semester reviewing specific details for each of the courses.  Registration is done on a first-come, first-served basis for both full-time and part-time MBAs.
