Welcome to the Babson MBA Career Planning Guide!

The Babson MBA Career Planning Guide was created to provide current students with access to resources and information that will help them plan their entire MBA experience. Because our goal is to help you - the Babson student – prepare for the career of your choice, our approach is deliberately personal. We hope that you will use this website to define your interests and skills, and develop a unique brand that you can market to prospective employers.

Although Babson is best known for entrepreneurship, our graduates end up in a wide variety of jobs, using the broad spectrum of knowledge, skills and attitudes they accumulate while in the program. Our graduates and their employers are generally impressed with the traditional functional knowledge and skills that are provided through the curriculum. Employers have also commented that Babson graduates exhibit a set of distinctive and differentiating characteristics that set them apart from graduates of other MBA Programs:

  • Entrepreneurial
  • Innovative
  • Integrative (Able to think and act across disciplinary boundaries)
  • Field-Based (Willing to roll up their sleeves and make a difference right out of the starting gate)
  • Team-Oriented (Skillful at working in teams)
  • Ethical
  • Global (Aware of and comfortable with the global context of business)

The Babson MBA Career Planning Guide was developed to help our students capitalize on these strengths. The website is organized around the career contexts in which our graduates typically land jobs that take advantage of these distinctive and differentiating characteristics:

We have also included a Self-Design option, recognizing that some students will choose to pursue careers that are less traditional for MBAs. For links to people, events and information both on and off campus that can help you with career planning, check the Resources section.

We realize that the career typology we have chosen exhibits fuzzy and overlapping boundaries – our graduates often take jobs that can be assigned to multiple contexts. Additionally, within each context there are specific types of jobs that rely on one or more functionally-based knowledge/skill sets. The career contexts we have presented here reflect our graduates’ real world choices and experiences, and are intended to give you a starting point for combining your personal interests and strengths with the opportunities available to you at Babson. The examples we highlight throughout the website are far from inclusive, but we hope representative.

Each career context includes the following sub-sections:

  • Alumni: Profiles of recent Babson graduates that include reflections on their career development, their current job,  and their Babson experience, along with their advice for current students.
  • Companies: A sample list of companies that have hired Babson MBAs, including links to company websites.
  • Course Guide: Information to help you plan your MBA electives based on your career goals.
  • Field-Based Experience: Examples of projects that students have undertaken through various Babson programs to gain real world experience in their area of interest.
  • Networking: A list of relevant professional organizations, including links to their websites. Often these organizations are multi-disciplinary, with members specializing in various industries and functional areas.
  • Websites & Publications: Links to relevant websites and publications that will help you learn more about your area of interest.
