The Family Enterprising concentration provides students with the opportunity to understand the entrepreneurial process within the context of the family form of business organization. Students will be challenged to explore Family Enterprising as an action oriented framework that requires families to adopt a distinct mindset and methods focused on creating new streams of wealth across many generations. We refer to this family practice as Transgenerational Entrepreneurship and distinguish it from the normal emphasis on passing the family’s business from one generation to the next. The Family Enterprising lens allows students to discuss topics such as bringing opportunities to the family, building an entrepreneurial team with family members, financing new ventures with family capital, dividing equity and value sharing in the family context, and many other subjects focused on establishing the strategies and structures for Family Enterprising.
