Public Accounting Concentration
Students who have overall good business sense, enjoy “working the numbers,” and are willing to work hard [do not mind working long hours] are likely find work in the accounting field rewarding. The Public Accounting concentration is particularly relevant for students who want to be Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and wish to work for public accounting firms such as [one of] the “Big Four” accounting firms, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, KPMG, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Most students who are interested in both the CPA and public accounting will secure jobs in audit or tax. The concentration, however, also prepares students who do not opt for the CPA but who seek positions in private accounting with companies such as General Electric, Lucent, and Raytheon. Students should strongly consider completing the requirements for the Public Accounting concentration in conjunction with a second concentration such as Information Technology Management, Planning, Analysis, & Control, and Entrepreneurship, particularly if they are not seeking the CPA.
