eRecruiting Best Practices Listed below are guidelines for uploading your resume, cover letters, and transcripts to eRecruiting. For printable guidelines to eRecruiting Best Practices click here. Getting Started: - Change your password to something you can remember.
- Upload your transcript right away, you can always add to/change it later. For instructions for uploading your transcript, click here.
- Highlight ‘Transcript Required’ in your ‘Academic Profile’ immediately after upload. You will not be able to use your transcript in an application until this is done.
- Do not make your resume margins too small or there will be a problem with your formatting once it is uploaded to a pdf file. There should be a ½” minimum.
- SENIORS MUST COME INTO THE OFFICE FOR A RESUME CRITIQUE BEFORE THEY CAN APPLY TO ANY POSTINGS! Access has been restricted until this is completed. Seniors will only be able to browse jobs until the resume critique is complete.
Searching (Jobs): - Start with a broad search; sorting postings by application deadline to be sure you don’t miss any upcoming dates.
- Narrow your search by location or industry depending on what is more important and continue narrowing. You can save customized searches for future use.
- You can search by postings that are entered by the career center or you can expand your search to all open postings on eRecruiting. If you expand the search, the postings with a green swirl were NOT posted by the career center.
- If there is a specific company you are interested in, you can search by employer. If they appear, then they have posted a job with Babson within the last 4 years.
Searching (Internships): - Start with a broad search; sorting postings by application deadline to be sure you don’t miss any upcoming dates.
- Narrow your search by the time at which you would like to have the internship, the location, or the industry you are looking for. You can save customized searches for future use.
- You can search by postings that are entered by the career center or you can expand your search to all open postings on eRecruiting. If you expand the search, the postings with a green swirl were NOT posted by the career center.
- If there is a specific company you are interested in you can search by employer. If they appear, then they have posted a job with Babson within the last 4 years.
Applying: - Apply to all positions before 4:30 pm on the day that they are due. This way there will be someone in the office to assist you should you have any difficulties. DO NOT wait until 11:30pm the day of! (Most deadlines are on Thursdays, but not all).
- Before you apply to a job make sure that all of your documents are correct and uploaded. Once you have applied to a job you cannot change or add to documents. If they are not uploaded you will not be able to select them as an option at time of application and they will not be included.
If you save your resume or cover letter with the company name as the filename make sure that it is the correct company for which you are applying. Employers can see the name of the file. (e.g. If you saved the document as ‘cover_fidelity.doc’, do not apply to KMPG using the same file name.) Often times the contact information is available for you to use in your cover letter. Simply click on the company you are applying to and click on ‘contacts’. - When you are applying be sure to highlight ALL required parts (i.e., resume, cover letter, transcript) or they will not be attached to your application.
- You cannot apply for an interview until you have been accepted by the employer.
On-Campus Interview Sign-up: - If you are accepted for an on-campus interview, you will receive an email letting you know. Note the date & time that the schedule opens up. If you were not accepted you will receive a ‘Decline’ email or an ‘Alternate’ email.
- If you are selected as an ‘Alternate’ you may sign up for an interview only if there are open slots available on the schedule. The time for sign up will be noted in the email.
- Interview times are on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you need a specific time be sure you are able to log on at the time of sign-up, or have a friend sign up for you. The career center will NOT be able to sign you up for a time, NO exceptions.
If someone signs up for the time when you absolutely need to interview. Please contact that student and see if they will switch with you. If so please forward an email to lmckeon@babson.edu showing you both agree to the switch and it will be taken care of. If you are accepted for an interview, make sure you check under the company’s ‘Events’ section to see if there is an information session. The Interview: - If you have signed up for an on-campus interview, you MUST show up for the designated time. If you have a problem you may contact the career center at least 48 hours prior to the interview and discuss it with someone, otherwise you are expected to attend. Failure to show at an interview can result in a revocation of all on-campus recruiting privileges, including use of eRecruiting.
- If you have an interview make sure that no matter what the position you are dressed appropriately (i.e. suit).
- If your interview is on-campus, please arrive a few minutes (even up to 15 minutes) early to review any provided materials on the company. Also, the name and position of the interviewer will be posted on the bulletin board by the interview rooms.
