The Boston Beer Co. (A) Set in Boston in 1995, Jim Koch, the founder of Boston Beer, must determine the appropriate price for his firm's stock in its IPO. This case requires students to value Boston Beer's IPO. The case is appropriate for introductory finance courses that cover valuation, and more advanced valuation classes. Sufficient information is provided that students can discount the firm's future cash flows or use comparables to value the firm.
The Boston Beer Co. (B)
This case supplements the (A) case. It extends the analysis by having students consider the valuation effects of changing the firm's capital structure.
