Wellesley College Theater presents"Waiting for the Parade" at Wellesley's Schneider Center black box
7:00 PM–9:00 PM
|
| Description: |
Wellesley College Theatre is proud to present Waiting for the Parade by John Murrell. The opening performance will be on Thursday, November 12 @ 7pm in the Schneider Centers black box theatre. Set in Calgary during World War ll, this play reminds us that the wounded are not always at the front. Five women gather to work for the war effort while men they love are away. Premiered in 1977, The Ottawa Citizen called this play a small masterpiece. Waiting for the Parade has been produced to great acclaim in London, New York, and at Chicagos prestigious Steppenwolf Theatre. Mr. Murrell interviewed women in the town about their home-front experiences during World War ll. The play, culled from their reminiscences, consists of five women, each representing a member of the Red Triangle Hostesses, a volunteer group that reportedly operated a USO like center in a Calgary train station where soldiers dropped in. Performed by Wellesley College students; the director of theatre and theatre studies, Nora Hussey brings the production to vivid life with the Wellesley production team: musical direction led by Eric Hamel, set and light design by technical director, Ken Loewit, costume design by Nancy Stevenson, sound design by George Cooke and choreography by Wellesley College senior, Kit Arnold. Performances Thursday November 12th @ 7pm, Friday November 13th @ 8pm, Saturday November 14th @ 2 and 8pm, Sunday Nov. 15th @ 2pm
