Support in Your First Year

Peer Mentor:  A peer mentor is a Babson College sophomore, junior or senior who has been selected to guide students through their first year. They are able to share their wisdom and experiences as they have recently transitioned into college themselves. Peer Mentors are carefully chosen and participate in a thorough training process and are the first year students’ first contact through orientation. Each First Year Seminar class will be assigned a Peer Mentor to assist with facilitation of the course.

First Year Seminar Instructor:  A FYS instructor is a Babson College staff member trained to lead an FYS seminar. The instructor sets the schedule of the seminars and social events and coordinates topics and guest speakers.  Additionally, FYS instuctors meet with students individually to set academic, social, and personal goals in the beginning of the fall semester. Lastly, the instructor provides additional support to students as needed throughout their first year.

Faculty Advisor:
A Faculty Advisor provides guidance to students from a faculty perspective, attends/leads at least three FYS seminars in the fall semester, attends FYS social events, and provides guidance to students who drop-in during office hours or make appointments.

Class Dean:
Each class is assigned a Class Dean who remains with them through their four years at Babson. The Class Dean provides academic advising and personal support for all students in the class. The Class Dean for the Class of 2011 is Dean Amir Reza who works in conjunction with the first year staff. The Class Deans are located in the Office of Academic Services in Hollister Hall.
