Travel with Babson to Tanzania in January 2016!
History and Partnerships
In March 2012, an undergraduate Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE) team worked with focus on Tanzanian communities and the Harriman Family—advocates for Karatu, Tanzania, and organizers of Michela’s Room at the Ganako School—to determine opportunities to develop a Tanzania Entrepreneurship Center. In that time, the Babson MCFE team delivered the BELA program to students of the Ganako School. In March 2014, a team of undergraduate and graduate students traveled to Karatu to continue their work, inviting and working with students from four schools in the region.
Preparation begins with two mandatory, full-day Saturday meetings, two months and one month before travel, designed to provide both an overview of the culture and history of Tanzania. These meetings prepare participants to work as a team on exercises and best practices for teaching the curriculum.
The team will visit Tanzania for 10 days from December 31, 2015–January 10, 2016. Once in Tanzania, the team will have the unique opportunity to participate in a short Safari led by world-renowned provider Thomson Safari. Monday through Friday will be spent running the academy with approximately 100 students representing five schools from the Karatu region. The estimated cost of this trip is $2,700, including airfare, meals, transportation, accommodations, and the guided safari.
The application period is open now for January 2016. Seats are limited, and applicants will be considered on a rolling basis until the trip is full.
