Words That Changed My Life
“We are having company-wide layoffs. Here’s your pink slip.” It was on white paper, but labeled, “pink slip,” which I still remember vividly.
I remained on their employee website for the next two years, and consulted with them when I started my own business while backpacking solo through Europe. Looking back, this was a catalyst for all things positive, and one of the best days of my life.
How I Want to Change the World
I want to create style-focused, budget hotels that foster collaboration among travelers, and encourage young adults to travel throughout the U.S. in order to dispel negative stereotypes and instill openness to diversity.
I want people to understand that style doesn’t have to be expensive.
I want to grow a “stay local” movement. I want to use local art and local vendors in our hotels. I want travelers to understand the city they are visiting as a local would, authentically. I want people to want to stay with independent hotels.
I want travelers to know how to say hello and thank you in the language of any country they visit.
What the World Needs from Entrepreneurs Today
The world needs entrepreneurs who are genuine and creative. Own your intentions.
What You Need to Know about Babson
It’s like living in a constant case study. Everything you learn applies to the business you want to start ... a correlation between Shouldice Hospitals and ModernROOST? Yep, I see it. Call me crazy.
My Proudest Moment in Business
Breakfast at the John Hancock tower after a three-minute pitch that garnered interest from a large VC firm. The view was insane. I think this was the moment I realized that ModernROOST was more than a wine dream.
My Personal Brand
Perceptive, genuine, and creative. I have a healthy obsession with details and aesthetic. I am visual to an extreme and see business design much like interior design. I also believe in connecting with consumers through all senses. What does the brand look, sound, feel, smell, and taste like?
How I Define Entrepreneurship
Top Ramen for breakfast. Just kidding. Entrepreneurship is the passion and tenacity to see something through, regardless if the end result is failure.
