Dr. DiCarlo’s research focuses on identity politics in contemporary Turkish society as well as Turkish diaspora communities in Europe and the US. She has conducted multi-site research in Turkey, Sweden, and the US, and is the author of Migrating to America: Transnational Social Networks and Regional Identity among Turkish Migrants (IB Tauris). Dr. DiCarlo received a Fulbright-Hays Senior Research Fellowship to conduct fieldwork among Turkish Muslim converts to Christianity during the 2006-2007 academic year. Most recently, she has been studying Turkish audience reactions to Ebru, a multimedia exhibit that explores cultural diversity in Turkey (www.ebruproject.com). Dr. DiCarlo teaches courses on material culture, the anthropology of Europe and Turkey, linguistic anthropology, and the History and Society Foundation course. She speaks fluent Turkish, French, German, and Italian.
