Can I Follow My Dreams?

Supporting a Different Path

Amy Mon ’12 / Shrewsbury, MA

“College is the best place to make mistakes and gain personal growth. Babson has created a safe environment for students to take risks and go after their goals, no matter what they are.

“My life goal is to start an English-language school in southern China. I hope to help Chinese students gain greater knowledge of the English language and prepare them to one day take on further educational opportunities. I know the business knowledge I’ve gained at Babson will provide a solid foundation for the success of my school.

“Babson caught my attention during my college search because you dive straight into business classes and start thinking with an entrepreneurial mindset. Babson has a close-knit and diverse community with experienced professors who really want to listen to students. I knew this environment would help me achieve my goals.

“Babson also provided great financial assistance to allow me to have many great experiences inside and outside the classroom. It was a great honor to receive the Ralph Z. and Charlotte Sorenson Scholarship for merit achievement and cocurricular activities. This award has allowed for me to participate in two electives abroad in Ghana and Argentina. These opportunities added a new dimension to my concentration in Global Business Management, and provided experiences that will be instrumental in my career.

Making Connections

Amy and Marissa both worked in the Bernon Center for Public Service »

“One of my mentors told me once, ‘Don’t wait until you get to the top to help those who are in need, help people in need while you try to climb to the top.’ This thought has resonated with me ever since and has helped me develop perspective on the concept of corporate philanthropy and social entrepreneurship. I am currently an elementary teacher for Teach for America Detroit and this perspective will guide me now and as I work to achieve my goals.”
