Video "World" Premiere - Monday, March 10, 2008
Noon - 1:30 PM Needham Room, Olin Hall
Video "World" Premiere: "Building a Business through Conflict; The Brunt Family and MSI"
Allan Cohen - Dean of the Olin Graduate School (Interim); Edward A. Madden Distinguished Professor of Global Leadership Come to see the "world" premiere of a video case "Building a Business through Conflict; The Brunt Family and MSI." This is a video shot by Allan Cohen of a unique family business, run by Tom and Kris Brunt, their two sons, Tommy and Shane, and the son’s wives, Pia and Tina. The Brunts are more open and direct than most executive teams (and most families) and their dynamics are fascinating. Issues of leadership, succession, competence, decision making, conflict management, meeting skills, and entrepreneurship are raised by this case. The Brunts agreed to cooperate though the help of Tim Habbershon and Mike McGrann, and this low budget documentary is fascinating in its own right as well as potentially rich teaching material. We will show the 45 minute video, then discuss how it was made, unused footage that could be made into another case or two, and possible teaching applications.
If you are interested in family business, OB, entrepreneurship, or would enjoy seeing the parents, two sons and their wives talking about working together and interacting at a meeting (with plenty of confrontation), join us on March 10.
This program is co-sponsored by the Babson Faculty Research Fund (BFRF) and the Curriculum Innovation and Technology Group (CITG). We look forward to your participation. Refreshments will be provided by the BFRF. Pick up your lunch in Olin Pandini’s (before noon), sign the BFRF list at the checkout, and join your colleagues in the Needham Room. For additional information, contact Erin McCormick, x3830, or Susan Chern, x5339.
