Babson College Fund

The Babson College Fund (BCF) is an academic program in which specially selected students manage a portion of the Babson College endowment. The program builds students’ investment research and portfolio management skills, and offers practical experience.

Mehran Givehchi, a second-year MBA student, knew on his first day at Babson that he wanted to be a manager of the $2 million Babson College Fund. Ten months later, he was managing the daily operations of the fund

Givehchi's days start early: he's at the Babson College Fund office, logged onto his laptop, and tuned into CNBC by 8 a.m. In addition to researching companies and trading stocks, he spent the summer developing portfolio management software that will allow fund managers to use quantitative methods to select stocks.

The Babson College Fund is one of the most hands-on, real-life learning experiences on campus. The fund is an investment portfolio that manages a portion of the College's endowment that has been specifically designated for this purpose. The fund debuted in the 1996-1997 academic year, and it has become a reason why some students choose Babson.

The Babson College Fund trustees designed the portfolio management experience so that the student managers determine how best to organize themselves to manage the fund. The new managers have organized the fund's portfolio into four subsectors: technology, energy, financial services, and health care...
