Founder’s Day honors the memory of, and the legacy established by, Roger W. Babson, founder and first president of Babson College. Each year, Babson honors Roger W. Babson and celebrates our shared passion to further entrepreneurship, education, and philanthropy, and our shared commitment to Babson College’s core values. Join us this year as we celebrate our founder with Babson’s family and friends!
Morning—FOUNDER’S DAY VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
Gather together with your fellow colleagues, classmates, and family members, and make a difference in your community. Volunteer on campus or at one of the local community organizations, including Cradles to Crayons, Friends of the Homeless, and the Greater Boston Food Bank.
9 a.m.–Noon—TREE PLANTING AT BABSON
Babson Campus
Join us as we help reduce Babson’s carbon footprint and give back to the earth by planting trees in needed locations on our campus. Volunteers will learn about the benefits of tree planting, help with digging, shoveling, and tree placement.
9:30 a.m.–Noon—GREATER BOSTON FOOD BANK
Boston, MA (leave campus by 8:45 a.m.)
The Food Bank annually distributes nearly 20 million pounds of food, for a total wholesale value of more than $41 million. The food is distributed to a network of more than 800 food assistance programs (including soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters) throughout the nine counties in eastern Massachusetts. Volunteers will work to sort incoming donations and package them for delivery.
9:30 a.m.–Noon—FRIENDS OF THE HOMELESS OF THE SOUTH SHORE
Norwell, MA (leave campus by 8:45 a.m.)
Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore consists of a food pantry, a clothing closet, a furniture bank, and housing for homeless families. Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks from yard work to painting to construction.
10 a.m.–Noon—CRADLES TO CRAYONS
Quincy, MA (Leave campus by 9:15 a.m.)
The Cradles to Crayons mission is to put new and gently used children’s essentials into the hands of Massachusetts families who need them most. From strollers and car seats to books and clothing, Cradles to Crayons provides items that enrich the lives of children and the people who love them. Volunteers will be putting gift bags together and sorting through clothes, toys, and books.
10 a.m.–Noon—ON CAMPUS SERVICE PROJECT
Glavin Family Chapel
Volunteers will be sorting, folding, and packing clothes for our Cradles to Crayons Program.
Noon—COMMUNITY LUNCH
Trim Dining Hall
Meet for lunch in Trim Dining Hall and celebrate together as we pay special tribute to the College’s founder, Roger W. Babson.
