 Citing Articles

Basic Steps
There are now five ways to search: - Subject Guide (default) - searches for your terms in the listing of subject headings and allows you to narrow by subtopics
- Relevance Search - searches the entire contents and displays results ordered by the number of times your keyword(s) appear in the entire article. Much like searching most Internet search engines.
- Keyword Search - defaults to searching in title, citation, abstract for your keywords
- Advanced Search - allows you to search by keywords in specific fields, limit by journal/magazine name, by date and more
- Journal Search - allows you to view a journal by date and issue

The opening search screen starts you in the Subject guide. - Enter a word or a phrase to begin your search.
When phrases are entered, InfoTrac will look for all words in the order given. For example: exercise therapy - Choose a relevant entry from the list of Subject Headings or from the list of articles if no subject heading was found.
Note: For major subject headings you may be given a choice: - Overviews, Reference Book Excerpts, Periodical articles
- Periodical articles will give you a chronological list of all articles with the most recent first.
- Narrow by subdivision - a choice of subheadings, articles grouped by various subtopics, such as Exercise Therapy for Children
- Click on the hyperlinked text to get a list of results to read either the extended citation, abstract, or text of the article(s).
- Scroll down to the bottom of the article for other viewing and retrieval options. Options will vary according to formats available. You can choose to email, print, or save your article.
- Choose Back to... Citations on the left side menu bar to get back to your list of results.
- To enter a new search click Back to... Search on the left side menu bar.

Advanced Searching Tips: - Click the Advanced Search in the left side menu bar.
- Enter a word, phrase, or words/phrases linked with AND or OR.
- When phrases are entered, InfoTrac will look for all words in the order given. For example: smoking and health.
- To modify a search, choose Back to.. Search and you may use the previous search results (the R1 numbers) to combine with another term(s). Example:
R1 and (cessation or stop*).

Segment or Field Searching Databases use different codes to allow you to search by specific field. This can help to narrow your search to a specific publication, author, or date. |

 Viewing, Printing & Saving Options
Mark the items you wish to see and then click on Marked List in the left hand column. You can then chose to email or send to printer (be sure to select Full Article if available).
You can print or download at anytime. Scroll to the bottom when viewing an article, and you will see viewing, printing and e-mail options.
To print, go the bottom of the article and select either Browser Print or Acrobat Reader.
To save to disk, click File . . . Save Frame As or copy & paste the text into Word. If Acrobat is available, open and save as a PDF file. Make sure you save to A:\ for floppy disk or C:\ for your own hard drive, change the extension to .txt, and change the file type to "Plain Text". |

Health Reference Center-Academic is a consumer health information resource that includes a collection of excellent medical reference books, the full-text of over 500 pamphlets, and 228 medical magazines, including 180 full-text. Information can be found here on specific illnesses, medical terminology, drug information, medical tests, wellness, and health-related organizations. Includes 40+ full text nursing titles. |
