The WEBnet Library Catalog lists the books, videos, audiocassettes, films, etc. owned by the libraries of the WEBnet Library Consortium.

WEBnet Consortium and Privileges

WEBnet is a consortium of the libraries of Babson, Olin, Pine Manor, and Regis Colleges. Babson students, faculty and staff with a Babson OneCard may request delivery of materials to Horn Library at the Information Desk, or they may check out materials directly at the other locations given below. Directions and maps to the colleges are available at Information Desk 1. Check with individual libraries for hours of operation.

Locating Materials & Collection Descriptions
The Holdings statement at the bottom of the full item record will indicate

  • Library of Congress call number (usually a combination of letters then numbers) for the item, plus
  • Number of copies and format of the item (book, video, etc.) and
  • Location may refer to a collection, such as Reference, Reserves, Hinckley and Stacks, or it may indicate the status of the item, such as Checked-Out or On-Order. The location codes that you will see on the catalog are in parentheses after the name of the collection. For example, BAB is the code for the Babson Collection. For more on collections see below.

Circulating Collection (STACKS)
First, Second, Third Floors. Books are housed on all three floors of the library as follows:

Babson Collection (BABSON COLL) Third Floor.
The Babson Collection contains circulating copies of works by Roger Babson, biographies of Babson and histories of Babson College plus copies of The Babsonian yearbook.

Community Collection (COMM COLL) Integrated into Circulating Stacks.
The Community Collection contains fiction and nonfiction books that deepen our understanding of the different perspectives among the Babson community. Topics included in the collection are culture/ethnicity, religion, gender issues, sexuality, and disabilities. The artwork on display was commissioned from Hank Kearsley in September of 1996 and re-opened the alcove in February of 1997.

Edward B. Hinkley Collection (HINCKLEY) Integrated into Circulating Stacks.
This collection of works on sailing, navigation and shipping is the gift of Dr. Edward B. Hinckley, President of Babson Institute from 1946 to 1956.

Popular Reading Collection (New Books) Jamie Horner Lounge, First Floor.
Current fiction and nonfiction best sellers for pleasure reading are found on the bookshelves in the Jamie Horner Lounge. Recommendations can be made at Information Desk1. Classic fiction, poetry, drama and other literature are classed in the General Collection in the PS and PZ sections on the third floor. Look up your favorite author in the WEBnet Library Catalog.

Reference Books for Use in the Library

Reference Collection (REFERENCE) First Floor.
The Reference Collection consists of 39,000 volumes of encyclopedias, directories, handbooks, indexes, national and international statistical sources, and law and tax service publications. Key works may be on reserve at Information Desk1.

Reserve Collection (CIRCDESK 1 or RESERVES) Information Desk1, First Floor.
Most-frequently-used reference books, course reserves, periodicals and some annual reports are kept at Information Desk1. Check out these items for two hours and use them within the building.

Research Consultation Collection (HORN-110) Room 110 - Research Consultation Office, First Floor Reference books frequently consulted during consultations and online searches are kept in this office along with selected electronic resource manuals.

Supplemental Reference Collection (SUPPL-REF) Information Desk1, First Floor
Older editions of reference books are kept in a storage room. Ask at Information Desk1 and an information assistant will retrieve the volume.

CD-ROMS

Babson Networked CD-ROMS (BABNETWORK)
To find out how a title can be accessed, go to the Electronic Resources A-Z list and choose the title. Among the titles are Compustat Research Insight and Value Line. These services will be on workstations in the library, the computer labs and classrooms. Older editions may also be available for use in the library or for 3-day checkout.

Reserve CD-ROMs (CIRCDESK2) Information Desk 2.
CD-ROMs needed for courses, Language Lab or those in high demand are kept at Information Desk 2. These CD-ROMs can be used at designated Library Workstations or in Horn 155. Directions for using the CD-ROM are in its jewel case. Earphones, if needed, are available from Information Desk 2.

Circulating CD-ROMs (CD-ROM CAB) First Floor near stairs.
Older editions and other CD-ROMs are kept in the bottom drawer of the middle CD-ROM cabinet. These CD-ROMs can be used at Library Workstations or checked out for 3 days. Directions for using the CD-ROM are in its jewel case. Earphones, if needed, are available from Information Desk 2.

Multimedia & Audio-Visual Information Resources

Videos, Laserdiscs and DVDs (CIRCDESK2) Information Desk 2, First Floor.
Videos, DVDs, and laserdiscs (also called videodiscs) can be checked out from Information Desk 2 near the Computer Center entrance. Videos and videodiscs reserved for specific courses are checked out for 4 hours and must be used in the Horn building. There are no Non-reserve videos.

Viewing equipment is available next door in Horn 155 and 164. To use the playback equipment in Horn 164, check out a room key at Information Desk 2. A mobile, larger screen VCR/videodisc station can also be checked out from Information Desk 2 and used in any group study room.

Audiocassettes and CDs (AUDIOCASS and CD) Information Desk 2, First Floor.
Most audiocassettes can be checked out for 3 days from Information Desk 2. Reserved audiocassettes, CDs and listening equipment are checked out for 4 hours.

Current Periodicals and Today's Newspaper

First Floor. Browse Current Periodicals near the main entrance to the Library while waiting for a group or class. The most current issue of United States, international and local newspapers are on the racks near the windows.

In the Jamie Horner Lounge, the lower area nearby, are current issues of the most popular magazines such as Forbes, Fortune, Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Road & Track, Glamour and Mademoiselle. Some of these and other popular magazines and trade journals are also on Reserve at Information Desk 1.

What If I Don't Find the Book I'm Looking For?

If you can't find the book on the shelf, ask at the Information Desk. When in-depth research requires books, reports, pamphlets, government documents, and dissertations not available through WEBnet, students can locate materials at other libraries and request delivery.

If you know what you want, you can submit a request through the online Interlibrary Loan Request Forms.
