Library Privileges for Contract Researchers
Reference Assistance
All individuals who conduct faculty and department research, including adjunct and occasional researchers, may consult with librarians concerning research strategies and information resources.
Electronic services
Online sources may be used for faculty research unless their use constitutes a copyright violation or is prohibited by terms of the Library’s contractual agreement with the information provider. The Horn Library web site’s instruction page includes information about restrictions for specific electronic resources.
Network Accounts: It is the responsibility of the hiring unit or individual to provide contract or other research assistants with an appropriate network account and password, if needed. Generally network accounts for non-student individuals are established through Human Resources. The Library’s Visitors’ page contains a list of databases available without a network account.
Check-out Privileges & Letter of Introduction
A temporary library card that permits reserve and other materials to be checked out may be obtained with a print or e-mail letter of introduction stating the person's name, for whom they are working, and the expected date their research services will conclude. Check-out privileges will be the same as those granted a local resident or alumnus, but will expire on the date indicated in the letter of introduction or at the end of a semester (December, May or August), whichever comes first.
