Personal Development

WE’RE ALL LEARNING.
WE’RE ALL BABSON.

Babson is a learning environment. It’s at the heart of everything we do. We have a ferocious appetite for new ideas, a constant wish to engage with new thinking and to explore new avenues in learning, education, and business.

In the same way that we support our students to learn and develop, we support and invest in our employees, too. It’s key to our success. As a world-class college, we need our people to set the tempo, becoming the learning pioneers who seek out new approaches, advocate continuous learning, and lead by example when it comes to owning and driving personal development.

Continuous Learning is one of Babson’s six core competencies, so we place great importance on the ongoing development of our employees. The College’s continuous learning objective is to provide opportunities that enhance near-term job performance, employee engagement, and achievement of career goals; and the Organizational Learning and Development department provides a variety of services to promote employees’ personal and professional growth. Employees and supervisors are encouraged to take an active role in identifying and pursuing opportunities on and off campus to sustain continued learning.

In addition to offering a variety of skills training workshops for employees at all levels, Babson also highlights its commitment to continuous learning through our semiannual Community Learning Day which represents a unique design and approach to workplace learning by giving all Babson College faculty and staff the opportunity to invest in professional and personal development and connect, grow, and give back to the community.

Continuous Learning generally refers to workshops or seminars offered to teach specific skills or knowledge, or opportunities that allow employees to develop personally.

Organizational Development refers to a systematic approach to improving individual, group and/or organizational effectiveness.

For a listing of continuous learning opportunities, visit the Babson Calendar.

Breaking Prairie: Sculpture and Installation by Andrea Thompson Full Details [X]
Babson Campus - Hollister Hall - Lobby
Artist Talk and Reception: Thursday, September 15, 5:00 P.M.
Exhibit on view: September 15–October 20
How do we value the land? In the early 20th century, vast areas of prairie grasslands in the American Great Plains were converted to farmland, forever altering the landscape. The bushels-per-acre accounting of agriculture came at the cost of native plant species, which are superior at capturing carbon, preventing erosion, and supporting a thriving ecosystem. The hubris of westward expansion becomes evident when contrasted with scenes from the day-to-day reality of farming life. Sculptor and installation artist Andrea Thompson explores these themes in Breaking Prairie, a new artwork series that questions how we measure the worth of wild and cultivated landscapes.
