Podcasting Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)Now that podcasting has arrived at Babson College, we thought it would be helpful to quickly explain what podcasts are and how to subscribe to them.
What is a podcast?Podcasting is the distribution of multimedia content from the Internet to a user's device of choice using syndicated content. Most podcasts are either audio or video and can be about a variety of topics. They can be listened to on any device that can play audio/video content and do not require an iPod.
Through the use of software such as
iTunes,
Juice or
Transistr, users are able to subscribe to a podcast and have it downloaded to your computer when a new one is posted. A more formal definition can be found on
Wikipedia if you are interested.
How to subscribe to a podcast? On all Babson College podcasts, there will be buttons (also known as chicklets) that will enable you with one click to add to any of the popular podcast receivers currently available.

If you are using any other software to do this, simply click on the orange feed icon and copy the URL that it points to and paste that into your subscription tool of choice. All podcasts at Babson should have this orange icon prominently displayed.
Do I need an iPod to listen? Not at all. The majority of people listen to podcasts right on their computer. If you can listen to music or watch videos on your computer, then you can listen to podcasts. In most cases just click on the "listen" link and your computer will open up the appropriate program and begin playing it right away.
If you do have an MP3 player, you can transfer podcasts to them and listen to the file anytime you want.
