What is a careerPOD (cPOD)?

A careerPOD is a select group of students committed to working in a specific job function.  These students will be invited to participate in a variety of career related activities centered on their area of interest. They will network with each other, employers and alumni as well as receive priority notification of new related opportunities.  cPODs are a chance for those students who are committed to working in a specific area to be on the cutting edge throughout their career search.

What careerPODs are available?

Entrepreneurship:  Students joining this cPOD are committed to participating in a start-up or growing companies on the cutting edge of business.  This POD includes students interested in the following tracks: Start-ups, Non-profit, Green Business or Corporate Social Responsibility.

Finance:  Students interested in the Finance cPOD have a desire to work in a finance related job.  This can include Banking, Financial Services/Insurance, Investment Management, Corporate Finance or Financial Leadership programs.

Management:  Students interested in Management may be interested in a variety of opportunities related to management.  This cPOD includes those students interested in: Consulting, HR/Operations, Manufacturing or Hospitality.

Marketing:  Students joining the Marketing cPOD are interested in all or one of the following areas: Advertising/Media, Public Relations, Consumer Products/Brand Management or Retail/Fashion.

Why do you want to be in a careerPOD?

A cPOD is an opportunity to participate in all career development related activities specific to an industry.  It’s a chance to receive personalized information regarding internships, jobs and events that may help you meet your future employer.  You will have opportunities to network with great companies and get specialized career advice for your area of interest.

Who can join a careerPOD?

Anyone can join a cPOD as early as sophomore year however, most students will join in their junior year.  As first years and sophomores students will have an opportunity to gather information on all cPODS.  Once you have decided on a specific cPOD, you commit to that cPOD.  In your junior year you must fulfill all of the requirements for that cPOD in order to remain a participant.  Seniors can still join a cPOD, however they will have to fulfill the requirements as quickly as possible.

What are the cPOD requirements?

The requirements to remain a participant of a cPOD vary by each track.  A detailed list for each can be found on the careerPOD website.  The activities can include having a resume reviewed, participating in a mock interview, going to an event, etc.  The list of activities will not be overly demanding and should easily fit into your busy schedule.

How will I know what is going on in a careerPOD?

Detailed information will be provided to each cPOD participant through a specialized Facebook Group.  A career counselor will provide up to date information on events, meetings, internship and job opportunities etc, through this Group.

First, have your resume reviewed by CCD.  Then, plug into a POD through Babson Career Connections.  Log in through the Portal and search the job postings for careerPOD.  Click on your Class year posting for the appropriate cPOD and submit your resume application.  Finally, search Facebook for your specific careerPOD group and request to be ‘added’ to the group.  You will only be accepted if you have applied through Babson Career Connections first.

Not everyone’s interests will fit into a careerPOD and that is okay!  If your interests are not covered by one of these four areas you will still receive up to date information regarding your career search.  Take a minute to schedule an appointment with CCD or stop in during drop in hours to talk about your specific needs.  This may only be the beginning of cPODs; we are hoping to build upon the concept going forward.   If there is an area of interest which you believe many students would like a cPOD created for, please let CCD know and we will consider the idea for the future.
