The Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE) Program offers organizational consulting assistance in the ongoing effort to build and support the community. The MCFE Program, in conjunction with Babson College, works to strengthen and develop relationships with Boston area nonprofit organizations by offering undergraduate students the opportunity to work with local area organizations as consultants. Since 1976, undergraduate students have worked with companies recommending solutions to business challenges. The MCFE is a team-based, academic program in which students apply what they have learned in the classroom to an organization's business problems. Undergraduate MCFE Key Features at a Glance
- 12-Week Projects during Fall or Spring Semester
2nd-year MBA Student is the Project Manager - Undergraduate teams of three to five students
- Primarily for Not-For-Profit Companies
Project Teams
The MCFE team consists of three to five students and a project manager. Students are selected for the teams based on academic performance, willingness to work as a team member, and individual strengths relative to the project, as well as, initiative, leadership, responsibility, and reliability. All students meet with a speech consultant and are trained in the fields of Project Management and report writing. At the conclusion of the project, the MCFE team's findings and recommendations are presented to the sponsoring company in a detailed written report and oral presentation. We look to your nonprofit organization to support the educational experience of our students, offering them a truly hands on, interactive consulting experience.
Team Support
A project manager (a 2nd Year MBA Student) supports each MCFE team. Management selection takes into consideration the major project issues and the support person's individual experience. During the course of the project, the manager provides technical support and guidance to the student team and determines the MCFE team's grade based on quality of the final report and presentation.
Sponsor Information
The majority of undergraduate MCFE sponsors are nonprofit organizations, but the program does not exclude eligible for-profit companies. Company selection is based on student interest in the project. During the course of the project, the sponsor interacts with the team on an as needed basis and provides all necessary information to the team members on request. Furthermore, the sponsor supervises the project and assists with inter-company communication. The company sponsor pays only for previously agreed upon expenses incurred during the project.
